The team out on DartmoorSpecialist skills. Shared purpose.
Mountain rescue can mean reaching people on climbing crags, tor tops and steep valley sides. Within DSRT Tavistock, members with a particular aptitude for technical ropework undertake specialist training to carry out and supervise rope rescues in line with Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) Rope Rescue Operator course guidelines.
This training equips the team to rescue casualties from crags and steep ground, whether they can move themselves or need to be evacuated by stretcher.
Every specialist is part of the wider rescue team. Regular training helps volunteers bring their skills together when a call-out takes them into challenging terrain.
